MIROKUTANA IS A CREATURE FROM BASQUE MYTHOLOGY AND ALSO A FILM PRODUCTION COMPANY FOUNDED IN 2016.

Amaia Merino and Ander Iriarte have built a wide-ranging career producing and directing films centred on Basque culture and human rights. Both their personal work and Mirokutana's productions have received numerous awards and selections at international festivals, among them: IDFA, FIPADOC, SSIFF DONOSTIA, MAR DEL PLATA, DOCSMX, DOCUMENTA MADRID, ZINEBI, FICX GIJÓN, EDINBURGH, SEATTLE, FESTIVAL DE MÁLAGA, FICG GUADALAJARA, SITGES, THESSALONIKI, PALM SPRINGS, ABYCINE, ANIMA BRUSSELS and ANIMAYO.
AMAIA MERINO: Working under the motto “think first, then do”, she has built a long career in cinema. First as an actor in front of the camera, and today behind it: editor, producer, screenwriter and director. Over the past decade she has focused on documentary filmmaking on social issues, earning significant recognition on the international festival circuit.
ANDER IRIARTE: Permanently in multitask mode, he works across many branches of cinema: fiction, documentary, animation, short and feature length… and across as many roles: production, direction, editing. Although he trained in fiction, he graduated from film school with a documentary and, following that same logic, he has earned wide recognition here and there, both in cinema and in the field of human rights.
